The Holidays
Heidi
Wow–Christmas starts way too early these days… I love Christmas music but I think it is a little ridiculous to start playing Christmas music and putting decorations out long before Thanksgiving.. By the time Christmas rolls around, everyone is sick of hearing about it.
I just don’t understand that …why is it that way? I think for now, we should focus on Thanksgiving and after Thanksgiving, focus on Christmas. The holidays have become way too commercial for me. I love the spirit of this holiday time but we have really lost the spirit and meaning of Thanksgiving and Christmas. How can we get back to the real meanings of the holidays?

My opinion is that people need something to look forward to in today’s world. Life has become so stressful, so out of control, that holidays add a much needed time of rest for many people, so people celebrate way in advance. That having been said, holidays don’t always end up relaxing.
I want to celebrate things way in advance if I’m really looking forward to them. For example, I’m taking off March 1-March 31 for a Hawaii trip/honeymoon and I keep thinking about Hawaii everyday now, even though it’s four months in advance.
I don’t know why everything has become so commercial.

Yeah–I suppose you bring up a good point about that but it seems as though people are more stressed out than ever over the holidays. People spend way more money than they have which really adds to their anxiety! I have just decided not to spend any money for the holidays because I am not going to get further behind and then have even more trouble catching up than before.
I agree that people need something to look forward to but we need to find better ways to deal with the stress than by creating more stress!!!
